Le 7 Camicie is a relatively new estate in Montalcino, founded in 2000 by Francesco and Laura Franzinelli Socini Guelfi, owners of the nearby Chianti Classico estate La Casaccia. The property had been abandoned for many years, but realizing the potential of the estate, and its incomparable southern exposure, they totally revamped Le 7 Camicie and put it on an equal footing with its illustrious neighbors, Tenuta di Sesta and Tenuta Collosorbo. All these properties are in close proximity to the famous Abbey of Sant’Antimo, which lies in the southern zone of Montalcino and has been a landmark in the area for over 1,000 years.
The property is relatively small (5.5 hectares) most of which is planted in Brunello and the rest in Rosso and Sant’Antimo. Although this is a south-facing vineyard, the vines grow at 1,000 feet, under relatively cool conditions. Lorenzo Zunino is the winemaker, married to Laura Guelfi and responsible for the vinification at both estates.
These young, enthusiastic owners have already fetched praise from noted journals like Decanter, and now that the vines are fully mature, they can stand with the best in the district. Despite the limited production, Le 7 Camicie is an exceptional buy among Brunellos.
