Chateau Plaisance

France > Bordeaux > Montagne-St.. Emilion

Description:
Chateau Plaisance lies in the district of Montagne Saint-Emilion, just north of the town of Saint-Emilion itself. The vineyard is very old; it was purchased in 1994 by the Celliers de Benauge, the commercial branch of Maison Ducourt, a négociant in Ladaux. Since then the vineyard has been completely replanted, and the cépage is essentially pure Merlot. Philippe Ducourt manages the vineyard, and Eric Fuzeau is the winemaker. The estate is certified in Sustainable Agriculture. Over 43 acres are presently under vine; however, only about 5,000 cases are produced annually.

Chateau Plaisance has won a number of awards in the French press, and since the wines of Saint-Emilion have grown more costly, there is renewed interest in the wines of nearby Montagne, which have much of the same style at a more moderate price.
