Château Laurès

France > Bordeaux > Entre-Deux-Mers

Description:
Presentation
Château Laurès is an outstanding white wine from the tiny ancient commune of Gornac in the Entre Deux Mers region. The vineyards that it comes from are centuries old and the Entre Deux Mers is the oldest wine producing area of Bordeaux. The Romans made wines here and the countryside is dotted with relics from bygone times. Benedictine monks nurtured the vines and there many 11th and 12th Romanesque Abbeys and Templar Chapels standing watch over the vineyards. Fortified windmi lls stand proud against the skyline and Gornac has four of these medieval towers still standing.

Entre Deux Mers is a limestone island between the great rivers Garonne and Dordogne and it is prime grape growing countryside. The warm waters from the sea drift down the estuaries and the vines bask on the undulating hillsides. The argilo limestone is well drained and fossi lised oyster shells are found scattered amongst the soil. This gives the wines a minerally characteristic which is unique to the region.

Tasting
The wine is extremely aromatic, with a nose combining apricots, citrus fruits and exotic notes. On the palate the wine is very lively, fresh and full of fruit, with balancing acidity. The finish is long and has nice bite. A delightful wine which will serve well as an aperitif, but will also make a perfect accompaniment to seafood, lobster and many types of fish. It would also go well with creamy types of cheese.
